Biogas-E en de Universiteit Gent - als mede-organisatoren van de EBA conferentie - hebben het intitiatief genomen om een Summer School te organiseren die opgebouwd is rond deze EBA-conferentie. De conferentie maakt tevens ook integraal deel uit van de Summer School.
Prof. Erik Meers (Universiteit Gent/coördinator Biogas-E) licht toe: ‘Als co-organisatoren zijn we nauw betrokken bij de organisatie van de EBA conferentie. We wilden echter een uitgebreider programma aanbieden voor doctoraatsstudenten en professionals binnen de biogassector dat inhoudelijk breder gaat en de mogelijkheid biedt om vertrouwd te geraken met de vooruitgang in biogas en het onderzoek binnen de anaerobe vergisting. We hopen op die manier de exploitanten dichter bij een zinvolle technologische transitie te brengen die het basis bedrijfsmodel van de biogasinstallaties kan verbeteren en de afhankelijkheid van overheidssteun te verminderen. Iets wat Biogas-E samen met UGent en een aantal biogasbedrijven en industriële partners ook binnen het TransBio project probeert te verwezenlijken.’
De titel van de Summer School is dan ook toepasselijk: “Advances in biogas technology: from sustainable input, over conversion process to energy and end-product valorization”. De Summer School zal doorgaan van 26 tot en met 30 september 2016 en geeft eveneens toegang tot de EBA conferentie.
Onderzoekers worden uitgenodigd om een mondelinge toelichting te geven van hun werk, op voorwaarde dat ze een abstract en poster doorsturen. Ingestuurde abstracts en posters worden enkel aanvaard indien u reeds ingeschreven bent voor de Summer School en kunnen doorgestuurd worden op de Biogas-E infobox: info@biogas-e.be.
Voor het overige zullen internationale sprekers een breed spectrum actuele onderwerpen aansnijden waarna de deelnemers van de Summer School volledige toegang krijgen tot de EBA conferentie, inclusief de conference dinner en study tour. Op de laatste dag van de Summer School zal alles samengebracht worden in een poging mogelijke oplossingen aan te rijken voor de actuele knelpunten in de biogassector. Vrijdagnamiddag wordt er afgesloten met de uitreiking van de awards voor de beste abstract, poster en presentatie.
Deelnemers aan de Summer School kunnen inschrijven met of zonder overnachting. Voor de vroege vogels zijn er aantrekkelijke ‘early bird’ en studententarieven.

De call for abstracts en posters voor de Summer School is nog steeds open!
Belangrijke noot: Voor doctoraatsstudenten van Universiteit Gent is de Summer School een gecertificeerde specialized training course. Inschrijving is kostenloos voor leden van de UGent doctoral school. De kosten worden rechtstreeks aan de Doctoral School op voorwaarde dat u effectief in aanmerking komt (uitsluitend UGent Bioscience doctorandi). Biogas-E and Ghent University – as co-hosts of the EBA-conference – have taken the initiative for a Summer School which is built around and incorporates the EBA conference.
The organization of a summer school was initiated by Prof. Erik Meers, who is affiliated to the University of Ghent and acts as platform coordinator of Biogas-E, the regional biogas association: ‘As co-hosts we are closely involved in the EBA conference. We wanted to provide PhD students and biogas professionals an additional programme that broadens the scope and gives the opportunity to get acquainted with advances in biogas and biogas R&D and spark the attention of biogas professionals looking for new opportunities’
The programme covers advances in biogas technology: from sustainable input, over conversion process to energy and end-product valorization. The Summer School is scheduled from September 26-30 and fully includes the EBA conference.
Researchers are invited to do an oral presentation of their work, provided that they send in an abstract and poster. Submissions will be accepted from registered summer school participants only and can be sent to info@biogas-e.be.
International key note speakers will cover a broad range of subjects before the summer school’s participants get full access to the EBA conference, including conference dinner and study tour. On the final day of the Summer School we bring everything together and try to tackle the key issues that exist in anaerobic digestion today. We conclude our programme with awards for the best abstract, poster and presentation.
Participants can register for the Summer School with or without accommodation. Attractive early bird and student rates apply.
